HANNIBAL, Mo. (Map, News) -
The man accused of killing two people in Hannibal will go to trial on Jan. 12.
Manuel Cazares (pronounced Suh-ZAR'-ayes) has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the February killings of his former girlfriend, 27-year-old Amanda Thomas, and 25-year-old Carl Patrick Epley. Both were stabbed to death at Thomas' home.
The trial date was set Thursday by St. Charles County Circuit Judge Ted House. The case was moved to St. Charles on a change of venue.
Police have said Cazares confessed to the killings over jealousy. He is an illegal immigrant whose status wasn't discovered until after his arrest.
Cazares remains jailed on $1 million bond.
